As part of the ACT Alliance regional appeal, which will be launched in the last quarter of 2022, the aid agency is implementing a complex humanitarian programme in Ethiopia to help drought-affected populations, including rehabilitation of water supply systems, distribution of drought-tolerant seeds, and implementation of projects to improve agricultural and food security. In collaboration with local partners, HIA has provided WASH and livelihoods assistance to build resilience of drought-affected community members in the Sidhafage district of Amibara district in Afar region. Material donations to agricultural inputs and small businesses benefited 692 people. In terms of water supply, a borehole was provided to the community as planned, providing 3,000 people (50% women) with access to a clean, safe source of water. The target groups have also received water pumps and vegetable seeds, which will enable them to irrigate their crops during dry periods and in the absence of rain. Drought-affected beneficiaries are also being supported to set up alternative livelihoods (small businesses) to make them more resilient to drought shocks.
Number of beneficiaries: 8605
Project duration: 01.10.2022-2024.06.12.
