Hungarian Interchurch Aid (HIA), in cooperation with the local government and community, has successfully completed a major development project in Sinjar, Nineveh Governorate, Iraq. The initiative, part of the Strengthening Resilience in Dealing with Crises and Conflicts in Nineveh (SRN) programme funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), focused on rebuilding vital infrastructure and supporting sustainable return for the Yezidi community affected by the conflict with ISIL.

Key achievements of the project include the construction of a modern community centre, the reconstruction and equipping of a sports facility, and the revitalisation of the local market infrastructure. These developments not only provide essential services and economic opportunities but also serve as platforms for rebuilding social cohesion in a region still healing from the scars of war.

To ensure sustainability, HIA implemented a comprehensive training programme for municipal staff, empowering them with the skills needed to manage and maintain the facilities long-term. With the successful handover of these infrastructures, HIA reaffirms its commitment to supporting the recovery and resilience of the people of Sinjar.
