HIA hosts conference on humanitarian perspectives in Ukraine

On March 13, Hungarian Interchurch Aid hosted a key event to discuss ongoing humanitarian efforts in Ukraine. With speakers from different areas, including Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Levente Magyar, representatives of the ACT Alliance, UNHCR and the European Commission, the event aimed to assess the crisis and explore solutions. 

The event began with Deputy Minister Magyar’s address on Hungary’s aid efforts, followed by HIA President-Director László Lehel’s presentation on the organization’s work and future challenges. A panel discussion with humanitarian leaders highlighting sustained commitment to Ukraine’s people was next: Giulia Naboni from UNHCR, Dr. Thorsten Göbel from ACT Alliance, István Perger from the European Commission explored the current perspectives of humanitarian work in Ukraine.

While all participants reaffirmed their commitment to supporting Ukraine, they highlighted a growing concern: humanitarian needs are surging, yet funding for aid organizations working in Ukraine is becoming increasingly scarce. The event reinforced the need for continued global support and cooperation to address the humanitarian crisis, ensuring aid reaches those in need as the conflict persists.
