Evangelical-Lutheran Church of Hungary to join solidarity action as well

Months’ worth of rainfall over the course of 24 hours has caused widespread damage after devastating flash floods and landslides hit mountainous Slovenia. Thousands have been evacuated, and authorities have reported several deaths, rescue operations are still underway. Slovenia’s prime minister has called the events following the extreme weather “the biggest natural disaster in the country’s history”. Damages are yet to be fully assessed, but are estimated to be around €500 million.

In solidarity with the victims and those who are helping them in their struggle, Hungarian Interchurch Aid is transferring HUF 5 million as emergency aid to the Evangelical-Lutheran Humanitarian Organisation in Murska Sobota. The Evangelical-Lutheran Church of Hungary has also declared to raise funds to help the population affected by the floods and landslides, and joins the solidarity action as well.
