Warm winter clothes for the children of Juveen Charity Orphanage
At the end of 2020 Hungarian Interchurch Aid provided much needed heaters to the Juveen Charity Orphanage in Sharia, Iraq and warm winter clothes for the children living there. The project was supported by the Hungarian Unitarian Church and the International Council of Unitarians and Universalists.
In the meanwhile of its previous projects HIA got in contact with the orpahange established in the Dohuk Governorate. The home was set up to accommodate Yezidi children whose parents were killed when Islamic State swept through Yezidi communities, and its aim is to provide home for the orphans. Currently 30 children lives in the orphanage and about 300 more are living at relatives’ under the Juveen programme. When HIA previously had a meeting with the leaders of the institution it turned out that there is a huge need for basic items like heaters and hoovers in the building and warm clothes as winter coats and pullovers for the kids.
In return for the support of the Hungarian Unitarian Church, the International Council of Unitarians and Universalists and the Hungarian Interchurch Aid the children of the orphanage gave a nice performance to express their thankfulness.
